What music publishing companies do is to simply take the music notes, and sell em. Encompassing all the "I signed this paper so NO ONE CAN PHOTOCOPY THESE FKING SONGS THAT ARE NOT PERFORMED BY ME BUT I HAVE OWNERSHIP OF THEM LOL" legalities.

What is wrong when people use their brains to play by ear, and write it out for convenience? What is wrong when they share it?
